When Did Life Get So Serious?

Almost twenty-five years ago, my sister Debbie died. We used to have so much fun together, even when we were doing absolutely nothing.
On the last day I spent with her before she went into the hospital, we sat under warm hospital blankets, laughed about silly things, wandered through a favourite home décor store, stopped at Timmy’s for a donut, then ended the day on her patio flipping through magazines and talking about everything and nothing.
It was the best kind of day: no agenda, no pressure, nothing to prove. Just time, enjoyed.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped having days like that.
Life got serious. Or maybe I did.
Productivity took over. My days became about getting things done, checking things off, and making “good use” of my time. Fun got edged out by duty. Play got replaced by obligation.
And if I’m honest, I think I forgot how to just enjoy myself
