When Life Gets Heavy, Add a Little Levity
I’ve been working with a dating coach for the past month. Her goal isn’t a dramatic transformation—it’s helping me make small, manageable shifts in how I approach dating.
Through our conversations, I’ve realized something surprising. While I’m normally joyful and lighthearted, I’ve become serious—even cynical—about dating. Instead of looking forward to dates, I often find myself dreading them.
How did I get here? And why am I showing up as someone who feels so unlike my true self?
I could give you a long list of the disappointments I’ve experienced. But what would that accomplish? Retelling those stories only keeps me anchored to them.
My coach’s advice was simple: bring in a little levity. A little more joy. A little more light.
I couldn’t agree more.
So, out with the negative stories and the dread. In with hope, curiosity and lighter expectations. I’m choosing to approach each date as an experience rather than an outcome—a chance to meet someone new, share a conversation and perhaps even have some fun.
Ah, that feels much more like me.
I’m consciously turning my attention toward what feels good and hopeful. The more I focus on what is working in my life, the more goodness I seem able to notice—and welcome.

Try this ONE thing
Where has life started to feel heavier than it needs to?
Choose one situation today and ask yourself: How could I bring a little more levity to this?
Release one negative story, replace it with one lighter thought, and notice what shifts.
