The Simple Pleasure I Almost Passed By

I watched Song Sung Blue on the airplane to Singapore the other week. I expected it to be corny beyond words. Instead, I found myself tucked into a charming love story that warmed my heart.

Even better, I rediscovered the music of Neil Diamond.

Not just Sweet Caroline, which seems to be playing in every ballpark these days, but the deeper cuts I had somehow forgotten. When I got home, I found his All-Time Greatest Hits on Spotify, and I’ve been listening to it as I write this.

There are so many songs I’d forgotten I loved.

I’ll admit I’ve played Holly Holy on repeat a few too many times. Those rich vocals. That choir behind him. The whole thing gave me chills.

And it made me wonder how many simple pleasures we’ve forgotten about—pleasures that are sitting there, waiting to be rediscovered. How many small things could heal us a little, uplift us, bring us peace, or simply make an ordinary day feel more beautiful?

One movie. A two-hour investment. And it has already given me hours of listening pleasure.

To think I almost passed it by.

What would I have missed?

Try this ONE thing

What simple pleasure might be waiting for you right now?

I’m not entirely sure how we find these things, but I suspect it starts by following that tiny whisper that says, this might be good.

So today, pay attention to the whisper. Watch the movie. Play the old song. Pick up the book. Call the friend. Walk the familiar path.

You never know what joy may be waiting to find you again.
