How a Cold Reminded Me Not to Take Myself Too Seriously

I recently launched an Instagram account called @KarenForeverVibrant, determined to show that age is just a number. My first post? A triumphant selfie after finishing a tough Orange Theory workout—a routine I’ve stuck with since 2017. I felt unstoppable, proud to be one of the few in my age group still crushing it.

And then, just four days later, I was knocked flat by a cold. Two days in bed, barely moving. So much for “forever vibrant,” right? There’s an old saying: “When we make plans, God laughs.” Well, I got the joke loud and clear.

Here’s the thing: life has a way of humbling us just when we start to believe our own hype. I pushed through, but my ego took a hit—and that’s okay. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is laugh at ourselves, dust off, and keep going.

Try this ONE thing

Next time you’re tempted to take yourself too seriously, remember that humility is the best accessory. Celebrate your wins but be ready to laugh when life throws you a curveball. It keeps you grounded—and makes the journey a lot more fun.

Curious about coaching?

Let’s start with a real conversation—no pressure, no charge, just a chance to connect and see if we’re a good fit. My only goal is your transformation. Together, we’ll uncover the stories and fears that have been holding you back and help you build the confidence to make bold choices and trust yourself fully.

Here’s the irony: sometimes, the very hesitation that keeps us from reaching out for support is the same thing that keeps us stuck. If you’re ready to break that cycle and step into a more vibrant, decisive life, I’d love to hear from you.

When you’re ready, reach out at karen.laidlaw.theONEthing@outlook.com. Until then, enjoy the blog and keep moving forward!
