Be The Kind One

This week I had a surprisingly difficult experience with an Uber driver. What began as a pleasant conversation quickly turned into a rant about Canadian health care. I chose not to engage and simply said, as politely as I could, that I wasn’t looking for an argument.
A few moments later, I asked about the river we were crossing. His response was icy: he said he wasn’t going to talk to me. When we arrived, he refused to get out and help me with my suitcase.
Wow.
I didn’t leave a tip, and I gave him a one-star rating. But more than anything, the whole exchange left me feeling sad. Whatever happened to simple kindness?
The truth is, the world feels hard right now. People seem tired, strained, and quick to anger. In some ways, it’s not surprising that kindness can feel in short supply.
But maybe that’s exactly why it matters more than ever.
A warm smile. A gentle word. A small courtesy. A sincere compliment. These things can still change the tone of a moment—or even the course of someone’s day.
Why make life harder when we can choose to be the kind one?

Try this ONE thing
Be a little kinder today than you were yesterday. Then do it again tomorrow. Small acts of kindness may seem insignificant, but they ripple outward—and that is how the world gets better.
