I am trying to drop the extra pounds I’ve gained since my knee injury. I’ve been listening to James Clear’s Atomic Habits and took his advice to start as small as possible.
I decided my smallest possible habit would be to weigh myself everyday. I’ve been doing this since December 29 and it’s been working wonderfully well. This new habit has caused me to eat less through the day and to stop eating after 7 pm. Both are great new lifestyle habits and they’ve allowed me to lose 5 pounds already.
But here’s my challenge: I’m starting to hate that stupid scale. I seem to gain and lose the same pound and a half all week. Argh! So frustrating. I feel like the scale is tyrannizing me. Which, of course, it’s not. It’s an inanimate object, incapable of doing me any harm.
I know I am making the right changes, I know I am doing the right things so that I can look and feel better. The scale is a tool to help me stay focused on making good choices.
And as long as I keep doing the right things, the scale will (eventually) reflect that. I am not at the mercy of the scale, The scale is there to serve me.
