I got the opportunity for business travel to Dubai a couple of weeks ago. What a fabulous city and I really enjoyed spending two days with our company’s leaders from Middle East and Africa.
On my last day there, one of our vendor partners was taking me to enjoy a traditional Emirati breakfast. Unfortunately, on the way to the restaurant, I did a faceplant onto the sidewalk resulting in a cut above my eyebrow that required 3 stitches. While all is well now and I’m lucky it wasn’t much worse, the thing that sticks with me the most is help I received from strangers.
My breakfast companion and I had only just met but she was amazing: from finding a local clinic to sourcing my passport from my hotel to grabbing a few snacks, she jumped into action.
And then there was the waitress at the restaurant who was a former nurse, who realized the bleeding could only be stopped with stitches, after cleaning and dressing the wound three times.
Lastly there was a gentleman on the street whom we stopped to ask for directions. He directed my companion to a parking garage while walking me down the street to the clinic, taking my hand as we crossed the street and went up the stairs. Once in the clinic, he got me attention right away. And he even offered to get us some breakfast since we’d missed ours.
I was and am incredibly touched by this outpouring of help in my hour of need.
