My internet went out for five hours one weekday. Super frustrating when you realize there is very little you can do without it.
Yet I tried. For the first hour I sat there doing what I could while constantly checking to see if it was back. And guess how that felt? Not good! My annoyance grew while the internet refused to come back.
I texted a meeting participant to say I had to reschedule; they told me to see the downtime as a gift.
Right! I finally got the hint and took my hands off the keyboard. I’d done all I could do and knew I could make it up later, once the internet came back.
I picked up a business book I hadn’t gotten to and started reading and making some notes. I then read through my US L1B Visa application for accuracy; something I should have done long before. And I found some errors, luckily with enough time to get them corrected before my interview.
I went outside in my bare feet and just enjoyed the sunshine for 15 minutes. Another thing I rarely had time for.
In short, I used this internet outage as a rare opportunity to recharge in the middle of the day. I quit worrying about the work that was piling up; I knew I’d make it up later.

How could you benefit more from occasionally stepping away from the computer? What would you enjoy that would replenish you?
Want to experience coaching? I like to start with a deep, get-to-know-you conversation to see if we are right for each other. Sometimes we talk for one or two hours at no charge. I have no goal except to bring about transformation. Together we work on the lies, the self-deception, and the fears of the power you perceive to be outside yourself. We work on your difficulties in making decisions and your inability thus far to make bold choices in life and to follow through and trust yourself completely to do so.
The irony for some people is that the very thing that they want the coaching for (an indecisive, half-hearted life) is what’s keeping them from deciding whether to get coaching.
