I remember a friend went into a retail business on her own years ago. It was an area she loved and she had startup money, but she really knew very little about business and even less about retail. I really admired her courage and was sad to see her business fail less in less than two years.
It was some time later that I read some alarming statistics about the failure rate of entrepreneurs. Apparently, one of the biggest traps entrepreneurs can fall into is doing it all themselves. I see this same trend with new managers who believe they should know everything and that asking for help is a sign of weakness.
Face it…you can’t know everything and you shouldn’t even try to know everything. You need people around you who know what you do not know.
The absolute best way to gain the advantages of experts around you is this: ask for help.
