One of my favourite managers, Garry, used to say these words to me and it was such a gift.
I remember trying to screw up my courage to give him feedback that being the sole woman on our team of leaders was a tough place to be. He somehow saw that I was struggling to get the words right and said, ‘you don’t have to edit for me, just say what you have to say and we can get the words right later.’ What a gift for someone to just allow you to get the thought out without getting it perfect.
It not only told me he was interested in hearing me, but also that he could hear the sentiment even if the words weren’t exactly right. Whew! What a relief to be able to express without rehearsing and thinking and re-thinking. Sometimes when we do that, we lose our courage and end up saying nothing at all.
And silence is hardly ever the answer.
Try this ONE thing
Where in your life can you say this? And to whom? Try it and I promise you’ll hear so much more than you’re getting now.
Hey! Are you already successful and accomplished? Do you have many things to appreciate about your life right now? Are you always open to learning more and growing yourself?
Despite all your successes, do you sometimes doubt yourself? Do you hesitate to go after what you really want in life?
Or maybe you dismiss your past successes, putting them down to luck, and don’t really see how extraordinary you really are?
If this sounds like you, you and I should have a conversation. Drop me a line here, karen.laidlaw.theONEthing@outlook.com, and let’s talk!
