A Simple Compliment Can Be A Tiny Miracle

I’ve been struggling a little bit at work lately, feeling invisible, passed over and passed by.
I started to wonder if I was making any difference, and then, whether I’d ever made a difference at all.
And I attended a retirement farewell for a colleague I knew but not well. I was always impressed by his courage to speak candidly and his kindness. I spoke up to add my gratitude along with the others. To my surprise, he shared how much he’d learned from me about how to facilitate. I hadn’t even known he’d been watching me.
I was so delighted to hear this compliment, not just because a compliment always feels good, but mostly because it was unexpected and exactly what I needed in my moment of self-doubt…a tiny miracle I’m sure he had no idea he was delivering.

Try this ONE thing
Think of one person who has made a difference to you, even in a small way. Then tell them. Send the note, speak the words, leave the comment. Don’t assume they already know. Your simple compliment might be exactly the tiny miracle they need today.
I’d heard it said that someone who believes in miracles will occasionally see one, but someone who doesn’t believe in miracles will never see one. I’m so glad I believe.
What about you? Have you ever received a compliment at exactly the right moment?
