Did you realize you are designing your life every day? You surely are. The question is: are you doing it on purpose or by accident?
As I look back over the last 10-15 years, I can honestly say I am delighted and grateful at where I find myself, and that is no accident. At least once a year I take some quiet time to look at my life. I think about how I want to spend my time and then compare that to how I am spending my time. Alignment means I am living in integrity.
A favourite tool I like to use is what I call ‘More Of/Less Of’. I take out a sheet of paper and make two columns. The first column is the ‘More Of’ column and I capture what I would like more of in my life. This could include things such as: quality time with friends, travel, healthier meals, greater influence on leaders, romance. The second column is labelled ‘Less Of’ and could include such things as: sheltering in place, extra pounds, self-doubt, fatigue. I admit that occasionally it includes a person who might be stealing my energy, or a work assignment that does not bring me joy.
I typically put the list away and often forget about it. When I come across it some months later, I invariably notice that I have more of what I wanted and less of what I didn’t.
This ONE thing, my ‘More Of/Less Of’ list, has been a simple but very powerful tool that I’ve used to design my life on purpose.
What do you want more of? Less of?
