The Indescribable Joy Of Doing Something You Didn't Think You Could Do

I bought a cabinet for my newly renovated bedroom and the colour wasn’t right. Since I loved the cabinet, I decided I would paint it. I’ve never painted in my life and the cabinet was in 21 pieces, each requiring two coats of paint, after I sanded it all.

I blocked off space on my kitchen counter, covered it with cardboard and bought all my supplies. My brother gave me a quick lesson in painting and away I went.

It took the better part of 3 weeks painting a piece or two or six each evening, and it’s finally done.

I learned a lot about watching for drips, getting the brush in the right direction and it wasn’t until my very last night that I painted without getting any paint on my hands or arms.

My son pleasantly surprised me by assembling it all for me. It looks amazing.

And I’m so proud of myself for taking this on, for trying something I’d never done before and for sticking with it. It’s not perfect, by any means, but it’s done, and that feels wonderful!

Try this ONE thing

Is there something you don’t know how to do yet? Go ahead and try it. I want you to feel the joy I’m feeling right now at having accomplished something I wasn’t sure I could do.

Hey! Are you already successful and accomplished? Do you have many things to appreciate about your life right now? Are you always open to learning more and growing yourself?

Despite all your successes, do you sometimes doubt yourself? Do you hesitate to go after what you really want in life?

Or maybe you dismiss your past successes, putting them down to luck, and don’t really see how extraordinary you really are?

If this sounds like you, you and I should have a conversation. Drop me a line here, karen.laidlaw.theONEthing@outlook.com, and let’s talk!
