The Best Thing You Can Do For Yourself Is To Breathe In The Good

When things aren’t going so good for you, you have two choices: you can dwell on what’s wrong, trying to figure out why and what you’re going to do about it. This is what most of us do most of the time because problem-solving seems to be the only way out.

Or, you could focus on what is going good in your life.

But how will that fix the bad, you say. It won’t, at least not immediately. But shifting your attention away from what’s not working is exactly the right thing to do. Look, you can’t will your problems away by ruminating and efforting. But you can take your focus off them for just a little bit, allowing the universe to take care of it. Or at the very least allowing your strong negative emotions about it to subside.

Meanwhile you turn your attention to something good, something you’re proud of, something that makes you feel happy. Breathe that in. Savour it. Appreciate it.

And suddenly you’re feeling better, stronger, more hopeful. And then an idea pops into your head about how to fix that thing. Or maybe you find that your problem has resolved itself. Or you realize it wasn’t so big after all, definitely not worth all your worrying.

Try this ONE thing

Before you go down that rabbit hole of worry and grief, take a moment to breathe in all that’s good in your life. Feel yourself relax into appreciation and notice that your worries don’t seem so worrisome after all.

Hey! Are you already successful and accomplished? Do you have many things to appreciate about your life right now? Are you always open to learning more and growing yourself?

Despite all your successes, do you sometimes doubt yourself? Do you hesitate to go after what you really want in life?

Or maybe you dismiss your past successes, putting them down to luck, and don’t really see how extraordinary you really are?

If this sounds like you, you and I should have a conversation. Drop me a line here, karen.laidlaw.theONEthing@outlook.com, and let’s talk!
