I know I am! I often find myself caught up in this incessant need to control everything. It’s the hyper-achiever in me that’s always trying to do everything and get it to work out exactly as I’d like.
Guess how few times it does? That’s right, almost never.
I’m sure that’s true for you as well.
And yet, when I think about it, I am incredibly content with my life in the daily moments. It seems I’m able to be content despite the fact that few things work out exactly as I try to control them.
So why? Why do I keep trying to manipulate things to be as I want them?
I/we could choose to be like this duck who’s just trying to surf the waves that come. We could decide that everything is a gift, with the potential to bring us happiness, fun, contentment. And maybe we’d laugh more. Maybe we’d all feel a little less stress. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Try this ONE thing
I’ll bet there’s something that’s not currently going as planned. Can you see where your desire to control it, to control the outcome, is the thing that’s exhausting you? What if you decided to go surfing and let what’s happening happen? Pick just one thing and try it.
