I’m sure that seems like an odd question, the idea you are in charge of your life and that you get to design it. For many years, it wasn’t something I thought I had control over.
As I approach a new phase of my life, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’d like my days to look like when I’m no longer working full-time.
I recall a date years ago with a man in California. He picked me up at lunch on a Friday and drove me to Half Moon Bay. The scenic road was captivating, the sun was shining, and I remember he kissed me at a stop light. We arrived in town and had lunch at the Ritz Carlton and spend the afternoon sitting by the ocean in lazy conversation about future dreams before we headed back and he dropped me at the airport.
I recall another day going to a restaurant for lunch with a friend. The conversation and laughs were so delicious that we lost track of time til the waiter came by and asked if we’d like to see dinner menus.
Most recently, I went to a long-lost girlfriend’s house for artisanal grilled cheese and sumptuous chocolate cake. I stayed on to meet her son, her grand dog and finally her husband. I left just before 8 in the evening.
These are exactly the ways I want to spend my days. And the funny thing is, I’m attracting more and more days like these into my life.
