Why It's Not Only Necessary But Also Okay To Allow Yourself Time To Rest

It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Between the hurricane in Houston, the hotel two-day power outage and the ultimate positive Covid test, it’s been about the hardest 2 weeks I’ve had in a long time.

Before I knew I had Covid, I figured I’d fly home from Houston, take a few days of rest and I’d be ready to fly to Bangalore on Sunday night. The Covid test nixed those plans. And thankfully so.

For it wasn’t just a few days of rest I needed. It was six full days plus another 3 half days.

And I fought it. Each day my out-of-office message said I’d be back to work the next day.

The unpacked suitcase in the middle of my bedroom floor was evidence my plan wasn’t going to work. I wouldn’t be able to just muscle through this.

Why couldn’t I allow myself to just rest, when it was clearly what my body needed?

And so, after pushing myself a couple of time and landing right back in bed, I finally gave in.

I rested and I rested, and now, finally, after ten days, I’m feeling so much better and ready to return to my normal activities, even if a little slower for now.

Try this ONE thing

When we don’t listen to our body, when we fight the message it’s trying to tell us, it just gets louder. Better to heed the call to rest the first time we hear it.

Want to experience coaching? I like to start with a deep, get-to-know-you conversation to see if we are right for each other. Sometimes we talk for one or two hours at no charge. I have no goal except to bring about transformation. Together we work on the lies, the self-deception, and the fears of the power you perceive to be outside yourself. We work on your difficulties in making decisions and your inability thus far to make bold choices in life and to follow through and trust yourself completely to do so.

The irony for some people is that the very thing that they want the coaching for (an indecisive, half-hearted life) is what’s keeping them from deciding whether to get coaching.
