Last year I got to spend my birthday in Singapore ….one of my favourite places to be and a place I hope to visit at least once more once this pandemic finally resolves itself. On that trip, I was blessed to have a couple of birthday lunches and dinners with colleagues amidst some spectacular sights. I also spent the weekend poolside reading in one of those sumptuous cabanas…pure heaven. While reading the book Abundance, I came across this quote from Epicurus, an ancient Greek philosopher from the 300 BC era: “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” A decade ago, I recall hoping that I would one day get to Singapore. I did eventually in February 2012 and have since been there nine times! What an incredible gift that has been; something I always hoped for and it came true. How much more enriching is it to celebrate that, rather than focus on what I might think I am missing. What is ONE thing you now have, that you once only hoped for? Take a moment to just breathe that in and enjoy it.
