There Is Absolutely No Need To Go It Alone; Why Even Try?

Writer's picture: Karen LaidlawKaren Laidlaw

Independence is often seen as a virtue, especially in the West. Fierce independence is often celebrated as a key to success.

I know, myself, that I have developed quite a degree of independence, courtesy of both losing my sister 20 years ago and raising my children alone.

And yet, two things happened recently that reminded me of the importance of connection, collaboration, and cooperation, and why we need others.

In both cases, someone else brought me a new and very useful perspective. In both cases, they saw something I didn’t, or couldn’t see.

In one case what I thought was a simple thank you note, was an apology and a way to let me know they had heard me. In the second case, what I saw as a simple decision, was a signal to another of my strength and commitment to moving on.

I’m so appreciative that these friends helped me with these reframes, and gave me things to celebrate that I missed on my own.

Try this ONE thing

Share your life and experiences with others. Listen to their impressions and allow yourself to see another view.

Hey! Are you already successful and accomplished? Do you have many things to appreciate about your life right now? Are you always open to learning more and growing yourself?

Despite all your successes, do you sometimes doubt yourself? Do you hesitate to go after what you really want in life?

Or maybe you dismiss your past successes, putting them down to luck, and don’t really see how extraordinary you really are?

If this sounds like you, you and I should have a conversation. Drop me a line here, karen.laidlaw.theONEthing@outlook.com, and let’s talk!
