How To Delight In And Allow The Beauty Of Nature To Surprise You

Almost directly across the street from me, the City built a little oasis of trees, forest and paths for the residents to enjoy.

As I was walking through there recently, I came upon a whole section of blooming trilliums. The trillium is the emblem of our province of Ontario here in Canada. I’ve seen the symbol in lots of places but I’ve never seen an actual living plant and here were hundreds of them. It was so beautiful it took my breath away. What a delight!

When was the last time you delighted in the beauty of nature?

I’ve been studying the Japanese art of shinrin yoku, which is the art of forest bathing. Did you know, ‘the art of forest bathing is the art of connecting with nature through our senses. All we have to do is accept the invitation.’.

Being outside and especially in a forest or park, we can engage all five senses. This is where we can smell the flowers, taste the fresh air, look at the changing colours of the trees, hear the birds singing and feel the breeze on our skin. And when we open our senses, we begin to connect to the natural world.

Try this ONE thing

Do it! Go out today and accept the invitation of nature. Have no purpose in mind except to just take it all in. And breathe a deep sigh of contentment. Ahhhhh…
